The point of dating is simple: to find the love of your life and find your happiness. This idea sounds like a fairy tale to many, but it is easy to achieve when you meet the right person. Sorry to burst your bubble, but like all things in life, it’s much more complicated than that. Yes, there’s a lot to consider regarding dating, but we’ll try to simplify things as best we can. Dating doesn’t start with “love at first sight.”

Say “Hi!”

It starts like all interactions in life: introductions. Yes, you heard right; a simple interaction between individuals is all it takes to get something going. Getting to know one another involves simple conversations. Sometimes, those conversations spark similarities between people. What comes next is time, quality time, to clarify.

You’re solidifying trust and good rapport with them by simply hanging out with the people you talk to, which soon forms friendships. Through this, it’s with a handful that they begin to harbor feelings toward people they either find attractive or have much in common with. Moving forward, once you establish your rapport, it’s either you or them that ask the big question: will you go out on a date with me? This question ultimately becomes the deciding factor whether or not you’ll be in the realm of dating.

If you and the other are dating, time will once again decide if you are compatible, depending on whether either of you accepts the other, flaws and all. But, as stated before, dating is much more complicated than simply talking to one another. Because we are unpredictable, it’s hard to determine whether one partner is compatible with the average individual.

Encoding Hearts Are Incalculable

An example is a 2019 study conducted by Samantha Joel, who gathered as many couples as possible to provide the necessary data she needed for her social experiment (demographics, physical appearance, interests and hobbies, etc). The results were ultimately inconclusive. Surprising. Let us further surprise you by showing how unpredictable humanity is.  In the 2013 film “Her,” a lonely man purchases an operating system that fully upgrades into an AI to suit his needs.

As the film progresses, he starts falling in love with the AI, which causes more of a rift between him and his ex as he struggles to accept himself while the AI begins to understand human emotions. Quite a trip. One final example probably needs no introductions as we talk about the 1991 animated Disney film “Beauty and the Beast.” In the movie, the main protagonist, Belle, tries to help her father, who ends up being a prisoner of the master of the castle, which is the Beast. She offers to take her father’s place in the castle for his release, to which the Beast agrees.

To say that their time together was rocky is a tremendous understatement. But after the Beast saved Belle from being attacked by wolves, it was there that they began seeing each other not as masters and prisoners but as equals. Their bond deepened as the film progressed, eventually forming an unlikely romance. Ultimately, it led them to confess their feelings for each other and end up happy together—quite a tale.

Now, What To Do

As you can see, we are complicated humans due to several factors. But that doesn’t mean you should give up on finding your special someone. We’re not here to discourage you but to show awareness should you want to find someone special. Now that you somewhat grasp the territory you wish to tread, you can easily navigate these waters. So, what are you waiting for? See what’s out there!
