Suteara Vaughn, born Suteara Vathanasombat in Chicago, Illinois, was raised by her mother in Whittier, California. A Thai American actress and producer, she is best known for her role as Ariel in Showtime’s “Shameless.” Vaughn has also appeared on TNT’s “Animal Kingdom” and starred in the independent feature “The Girl in the Pool” alongside Freddie Prinze Jr. and Monica Potter. She made her film debut opposite Michael Shannon in the psychosexual noir love story “Frank & Lola,” but her scene ended up on the editor’s floor; she played a feisty rocker in Ashley Avis’s romantic drama “Adolescence.”

Suteara Vaughn’s Thai Heritage
Vaughn comes from a performing family in Thailand, with both her uncle and cousin being local stars. She started acting at seven in school plays and continued her passion at St. Bruno’s School in Whittier, appearing in numerous stage productions. Vaughn earned an associate’s degree in Theatre Arts from Pasadena City College, a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from Cal State Fullerton, and is currently pursuing a master’s in fine arts in Television, Film, and Theatre at Cal State LA.
A Mariah Carey Video Jump Started Suteara Vaughn’s Career
Before fully committing to acting, Vaughn traveled the world, worked as a chef, and earned a culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts. She also performed and recorded with a rock band and worked behind the scenes as a production assistant in both television and film. Vaughn broke into the entertainment industry through a Mariah Carey music video, leading to her television debut in HBO’s hit series “Entourage.” She also starred in the web series Boys Before Friends as Chloe James, a boutique owner and advocate for empowering women, where she also served as associate producer and casting associate.

On the production side, Vaughn worked as an assistant producer and music supervisor for the TV documentary series Clubbin’. He was an associate producer on Adolescence and Deserted, directed by Ashley Avis. Her additional film credits include Positive, which addresses HIV issues, The Lighter Journey, Kidnapping Terry, The Pro, The Black, and the feature drama Love Sick Diaries. In addition to her acting and production work, Vaughn is a licensed real estate agent in Southern California.
