One look at Susan Berger. She is loads of fun, and that’s precisely what we got on this episode of The Able Show. Berger is known for her memorable roles in film and television, and she shares her history and secrets from working continuously for decades.

International Experience

Veteran theatrical actress Susan Berger, a Buffalo, NY native, has built a remarkable career spanning decades, captivating audiences worldwide. Her early exposure to international education, combined with a degree from the University of Georgia and a master’s degree from the University of Hawaii, enriched her cultural perspective and artistic excellence. Berger went to nursery school in Paris, France, finished elementary school in Cape Town, South Africa, and graduated from high school in Rome, Italy. In between, she lived in five states and called many places home. Today, she lives in Los Angeles, California.

After she graduated from the University of Georgia, she received a scholarship to teach acting at Honolulu Community Theatre in Hawaii (her alums include Clyde Kusatsu, Keone Young, and Haunani Minn) and take a Master’s degree at The University of Hawaii. Later, she went to London, hoping to pursue an acting career. However, England’s work permit requirements didn’t make that possible, so she went to Front Street Theatre in Memphis, Tennessee, and from there, she went to New York. Susan appeared in many Regional and Off-Broadway plays and in the original and Broadway productions of the musical The Robber Bridegroom, establishing herself as a dynamic stage performer.

Theater Set The Stage for a Masterful Career

One of Berger’s most memorable experiences was her role in Joel Coen’s, The Tragedy of Macbeth, a testament to her talent and versatility. Her film credits include Kajillionaire, Looks to Kill, The Dollar King, and  The Legacy of Cloudy Falls. Berger is also on Amazon Freevee’s Jury Duty as Barbara Goldstein. Susan can be seen on Jury Duty on Amazon’s Freevee, playing Barbara Goldstein. “Jury Duty was a truly breathtaking, fully improvised experience around a set of premises that the cast was never sure would happen as the writers and producers imagined. The fact that it came out so well is a tribute to the production team’s editing skills,” says Berger.

Son of A Mother

Her extensive TV appearances also feature roles in American Horror Story, 2 Broke Girls, Baskets, Mom, Criminal Minds, Bob Hearts Abishola, and Hunters. After studying improv and musical improv at UCB, Susan and her son Christopher Corbin formed a two-person improv group—Son of a Mother.

Earthquake!

Winner of the Readers’ Favorite Award and the 2009 Green Book Festival Award, Berger’s book, Earthquake, shares valuable information about earthquakes, including what causes them, whether we can predict them, how to measure earthquakes, and how to prepare for them. There are many fun facts, such as the biggest earthquake in the world and when to do fun experiments, including how to make a seiche. Earthquake is an excellent book to empower your children to prepare for and learn about earthquakes. The book is for grades K-3.
