Modern day, depression has taken on many forms and impacted so many individuals. Although depression can’t be mentally cured, there are plenty of methods for treatment or forms of self-care. One of these options is through entertainment of your favorite pieces of media to basically ease yourself. By no means is the subject of this article a preferred method for serious cases of depression. However, we’d thought it would be nice to show another side of entertainment for viewers.

It’s not as surprising that watching television is a form of self-care but it goes really deep once you look into it. For starters entertainment can serve as escapism, putting a pause on your depression or daily stress. Being caught in a good or entertaining story can help decompress over time so you can emotionally recharge. Alternatively watching an emotional story can help bring out your own feelings. Many times, we suppress our emotions until a boiling point, an emotional piece of media can help release those emotions.

Cinema Therapy can be applied to nearly every genre for entertainment according to an article from Psych Central. The article uses many examples as to how a genre can help with a depressive mood, such as. Comedies are an obvious pick for improving your mood and reducing your stress levels. Dramas can increase feelings of gratitude and reduce feelings of isolation. Lastly and surprisingly Horror due to increased brain activity during and feeling cathartic or relief after words.
Conclusion
Shows and movies can serve many purposes, from education, entertainment and storytelling. Watching stories in the media isn’t pausing your own story, it’s adding to it. We might not know what each person is going through. So, if you know someone or if you are going through a moment of depression, there is bound to be something to watch to put you at ease.
