When you look at a stone with the naked eye, it seems like just a rock. However, if you examine it closely, you’ll see a variety of minerals and organisms covering its surface. The minerals found on Earth have various effects on living organisms, depending on what they carry. These stones can either help or harm you. But do the same rules apply to natural-cut gems?
Birthstones by Birthright
It might be a given, but for context, gemstones are specialized minerals that stand out from their rock counterparts. Their color variations symbolize the different effects they have. There are many gemstones we could mention here, but for this entry, we’ll focus on the stones associated with the subjects of our previous entries: the Zodiacs. People born under the Zodiac signs are greatly influenced by gemstones. In this post, we’ll list the twelve Zodiacs, their birthstones (or “Gemstones” as they are often called), and the properties they bring.
Starting with January, the Capricorn is attuned to the Garnet gemstone, which promotes faith, eternity, and truth. The Aquarius, born in February, uses Amethyst, which harnesses luck, wit, and health. March’s emotional Pisces are paired with Aquamarine, exuding happiness and understanding. Aries, born in April, has the glittering Diamond, granting eternity, courage, and health. May’s Tauruses carry the radiant Emerald, which provides fidelity, goodness, and love.
Still with us? Let’s keep going. June’s Gemini has the graceful Pearl, bringing peace, nobility, and beauty. The blazing Ruby is the gemstone of July’s Cancers, which grants love, enthusiasm, and strength.
Mid-year brings the Leos of August, who hold the Peridot, bringing success, peace, and love. Virgo, born in September, carries the Sapphire, promoting serenity and truth. The Libra, born in October, are connected to the Opal, which enhances purity, hope, and health. The Scorpios of November are attuned to the radiant Topaz, which provides wisdom, courage, and serenity. Finally, December’s Sagittarius holds the Tanzanite, which brings blessings of love, happiness, and luck.
From Thoughts to Power
A lot of information to take in, for sure. But the properties of these gemstone minerals give us the ethereal edge we need to navigate life. This concept is reflected in the titular character of the video game platformer Sonic the Hedgehog. In the original game, Sonic embarks on a high-speed adventure to stop the mad scientist, Dr. Eggman, from turning animals into robots for his mechanical empire. Along the way, Sonic collects mystical gems called “Chaos Emeralds” (though only one consistently bears this name).
Much like the gems mentioned earlier, a single Chaos Emerald contains immeasurable energy for whoever possesses it. But when all seven emeralds are gathered, their power creates a miracle—such as super transformation, invulnerability, and the ability to warp time and space. The only downside? Once the emeralds’ powers are used, they scatter across the globe, restarting the search for them. These emeralds wouldn’t appear on the big screen until the sequel to the 2020 film adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog. In this movie, the plot somewhat mirrors the video game, with the key difference being that the events unfold in our reality.
If you ever feel like adding a gemstone to your collection, it’s best to research your Zodiac sign to see which one aligns with you. Or, if you just like the way a gem looks, that’s perfectly fine too. Either way, the benefits will be worth it.
